At 8,150 feet, spring doesnât arrive the way most people expect.
There are no green lawns.
No early flowers.
No easy transitions.
Instead, spring shows up quietlyâhidden in the warmth of the sun, even while the ground remains buried under feet of snow.
This week, it was warm enough to leave the jackets behind.
But the snow? Still deep. Still very real.
âď¸ Firewood Doesnât Wait for the Seasons
Living off-grid means one thing above all else:
Preparation never stops.
Firewood isnât something you think about when it gets coldâitâs something you stay ahead of all year long.
So even on a warm spring day, Trinity and I loaded up the Skidoo and hooked up the Yukon Expedition sled for another run.
Two trees. One trip. Maximum efficiency.
𪾠Working Smart in Deep Snow
Out here, effort alone isnât enough.
You have to work smart.
Dropping trees in deep snow is only half the job.
The real challenge is moving that wood efficiently.
Thatâs where Trinity shines.
While I focus on safely dropping and bucking the treesârunning both the Husky 572 and our EGO 20â electric chainsawâsheâs already moving.
Positioning the sled tight to the work zone.
Eliminating wasted steps.
Maximizing every movement.
By the time I finish bucking, sheâs already loading.
No delays. No wasted energy.
Thatâs how you stay ahead out here.
đ The System: Snowmobile + Yukon Sled
Our setup is simpleâbut it works.
Skidoo snowmobile for access and hauling
Yukon Expedition sled for load capacity
Chainsaws for fast, clean cuts
A system built on repetition and teamwork
When everything clicks, it becomes a rhythm:
Tree â Buck â Load â Haul â Repeat
And on this day, everything clicked.
đ¨âđ§ More Than Firewood
What makes these days different isnât just the workâitâs who youâre doing it with.
Trinity isnât just tagging along anymore.
Sheâs a partner.
She understands the flow.
She anticipates the next step.
She works with purpose.
Out here, that matters.
Because this lifestyle isnât built on convenienceâitâs built on capability.
đĽ The Reward
By the end of the run, the sled is loaded and the driveway gains another stack of future heat.
Itâs not glamorous work.
Itâs not easy.
But itâs honest.
And in a world where most things are instant, thereâs something different about building your own heatâone tree at a time.
đď¸ Life at Elev 8150
This is daily life at Elev 8150.
Deep snow.
Changing seasons.
Hard work.
Family.
Weâre not just building a lodge hereâweâre building a way of life that weâll eventually share with others through our future off-grid destination, restaurant, and guest experience.
And every load of firewood is another step toward that vision.
